Act Profile

Sitar Player - Sam

To add a real touch of class and tradition to your event why not entertain your guests with authentic classical, semi classical and folk music. The Sitar is North India's best known and loved classical instrument. Although it originally comes from Persia and had three strings (seh-tar) it now usually has eighteen strings and has developed over the centuries according to the demands of the great masters. The Tabla has similarly developed in India influenced by the Hindu and Islamic traditions and is now also North India's best known percussion instrument. The tradition of North Indian classical music is also one of the most demanding and respected in the world by connoisseurs and lovers of the arts.

Our sitarist Sam is a student of Ustad Shahid Parvez (India's finest Sitarist). He has performed throughout the UK, India, Europe and America in venues such as the London Symphony Orchestra's St Luke's church, the Nehru centre London, the Cork Jazz Festival.......and has worked with the London Symphony Orchestra, Cornershop, the London Symfonietta (with guest singers Jarvis Cocker, Badly Drawn Boy, Marianne Faithful......), Beth Orten, Shushmita Ghoosh (kathak dance), Bhangara Knights (dance music), Chandalay Chor (world music fusion).........Sam also lectures Hindustani music at The University of West London. He performs with a number of amazing Tabla players.
